2011 summary

As we are coming to an end of 2011 I have decided to do a summary of my 10 most popular posts of this year.  My top 3 had about 3 times as many visitors as no 4 on the list so they are most defiantly in a league of their own.  (I do also have a blog in Norwegian, and the list over there is very different from this one, so if you want to see you can take a look here : )

Number 10 on my list is shared between two posts. One was my first attempt to make a tutorial and I think it went down well. These posts are number one and three on my Norwegian list so it has boosted my confidence and I’ll be making more in the year to come.

Number 9 was a post about some Christmas stars I folded and my first visit to a craft fair. It was a fun experience and I hope to participate in a few more nest year.

Number 8 are some of my pendants. Domino and puzzle pendants are a passion of mine. All of the pieces are individual and one of a kind. I cut out every tiny bit of paper and glue them on to make unique pieces of art.

Number 7 is my experimental chair makeover.Used my favorite material and covered the chair in paper. It doesn’t go with anything in my house so sadly its still just stuck away in the corner waiting for its true purposeJ

Number 6 were my Christmas bulbs tutorial. I’m so glad you liked it!

Number 5 is one of my repurposed trousers bag. I really like this one and were using it dayly until I made this one.

Number 4 were one of the first owls I did sew together with a matching display shelf. Not sure how happy I’m with this project now, but for a first attempt it wasn’t too bad.

And then we have reached the top 3, they were in a leage of their own and the number one even surprised me a little so here we go:

Number 3: was my suggestion on how to organize your boots. This made my life easier this winter, being able to hover the floor without it turning into a huge project every time. Hope those who tried it found it helpful as well.

Number 2 you’ll find my owls I think their cute and apparently so did many of you J

And my number 1 most visited link this year was my denim bracelets. I like them very much but still didn’t expect them to become so popular. I have gotten a lot of emails requesting a tutorial, and I will be posting one in the first week of 2012.

All in all I’ve had far more hits than I was expecting and I’m very grateful to all of you who have visited me the last year and made my blogging experience so much fun! Hope to see all of you again next year!

Sew as you go...

That was more or less what I did with this bag.  I had no pattern, just a picture in my head of what I wanted.

Last summer I was lucky enough to come across a fantastic ribbon from the 70s. Since then I have been looking for a project and last week I decided to use it for a bag.

My original plan was to make more cartoon wallets, but as always when I’m in the “should have done” mode my imagination takes a detour.

All my bags need to have a zippered inner pocket; I also prefer to close it with a zipper, have contrasting colors and for it not to be too large. (I see no reason to carry around more than necessary.) 

With that as my starting point I began looking through my fabric collection. How many times I had to cut a little here and pull up a little seam there until I finally got the shape and size I wanted I dont know. Sadly I was not able to have the zipper closure that I wanted. The solutions I tried made the ribbon around crumble so I decided to go for a magnetic button instead. I have since then, of course, managed to figure out how it should have been done, but at that time I was tired of the whole project and decided to leave it as it is. I should also have used a stiffer interfacing to avoid the bag falling over at the magnetic closure. But all in all not too bad for my first attempt with no pattern or other instructions.

   

Repurposed throusers

Yet again some old pants had to pay with their lives so that I could get a new bag. I do my best not to drag around more than necessary so I decided to make this one a little smaller than the ones I made before.

It is decorated with parts of old sweaters and buttons from my grandmother. Inside there are both a zippered and a mobile pocket.

Bag of squares

This is (for now) the last bag in a series made from old trousers. It could most definite have been made more firm with some interfacing. But at the time I didn’t have any available and I didn’t have the patience to wait till I could get some, so I let it turn out just the way it did:)

Black and white bags

I finally finished the rest of my dear aunts’ order, a big bag, a small buttercup, a sunhat and these makeup bags. Of cause I forgot to take a proper picture of the sunhat, hut its reversible with black and white pattern on one side, and all black on the other.


Those that have been to IKEA lately might recognize the patterned fabric, whilst the black was some linen that I had lying around.

Heart in my hand

I can’t seem to agree with myself on this bag. The reason is simly that, no matter how much is happening in this bag, I still feel its missing something. But I have yet to find out what that something is. Not that it matters anymore, luckily most people didn’t agree with me so this bag does now have a new owner :)

Oh deer

Thought that was an appropriate name for this bag. I’ve had the fabric lying around for a while, and I’ve got no idea where it came from. Inside it’s lined with plain blue cotton, and the pocket is from a yellow 70s tablecloth.

Bag made of old trousers

I bought my sewing machine last October, and some of my first projects were to transform some old trousers into bags. The first one was not very successful, but I’m quite happy about this one. The inside pocket used to be the back pocket of one of the trousers. Ideally I would have liked the shoulder strap to be a little longer, but that was the length of the legs so I just had to do the best of what I had.
