Lampeshade makeover

Beads, I have tons of beads and I don’t know why. Threading them has never been my thing, and if I need a necklace I’m more than happy to pay for one already made. But despite of this I have masses of beads in every color and shape available.

So, inspired by my resent wish to get rid of most of my fabric leftover pile, I decided that it would be a good thing to get these pearls out into the light (literarily)

A few years ago I covered a lampshade in old doilies. It’s been hanging in my living room since, but it never grew on me. So now it was time take it apart and start over.  

(For some reason it looks a lot better in this picture than it did when I sat on my sofa looking at it...)

What I did with the doilies you’ll see en my next post, but the lampshade was decorated with fabric scraps, beads, paper doves and other stuff I had laying around.

Fabric covered frame

A few weeks ago I picked up two frames from a flea market. They are made from plastic, had a nice shape, but other than that were not very attractive. Decided that I would try to get rid of some fabric leftovers on this project. I started by sanding the frame before gluing on pieces of fabric.

I used a lot of gel medium both over and under the fabric so it was not a problem to make it follow the shape of the frame. Because of all the moldings I don’t think paper would have worked as well on this project, so I’ll be using fabric on the other frame as well. For now I have left the frame unthreaded because I cant make up my mind if I want a matt or a shiny surface.

 

Tutorial - Denim pocket fridge magnet

I've been thinking about making a tutorial for a long time, and decided that today was the day.
I’m starting with a very easy and uncomplicated project, and if I’m adding to much (or not enough…) details please let me know.

What you need:
Denim pockets
Fabric glue
Magnet sheet
Heavy books (or something else with some weight to it)

I have been making a lot of denim bowls and even redid a chair with denim and that left me with quite a few upperparts of the trousers I used. One way to put them into use was to make fridge magnets of the back pockets.

1: Cut out the pocket, as close to the edge as possible.

2: I decided not to zigzag the edge of the back of the pocket because stretch denim tend to crumple when I do. But if you don’t care about that it would make the edges more resistible to fraying.

3: Get your glue and magnet sheet (At the time I had neither fabric glue or magnet sheet so I used what I had. Gel medium and some magnet that I had printed with some of my collages. But I would strongly recommend magnet sheets because the magnet is stronger so you can put more weight in the pockets.)

4: Cut the magnet to size and glue it to the back of the pocket.

5: Put some heavy books on top and leave to dry.

6: Viola… perfect for pens, small notes or other stuff you want easy access to

      

Angel swap

About a month ago I came across a swap on Flickr. The other participants were from the US, but lucky for me they allowed me to join. The challenge was to make a charm or a pendant using a game piece and words.

I chose angels as my theme and made tree individual pieces by combining angel scraps, sayings, pearls and paint. All of them went in the mail yesterday, and I really hope the recipients will like them.

A curtain for my kitchen

There are two reasons why this blog isn’t focused on interior design.  One is that like shoes are meant for walking this house is meant for living. And a house that’s constantly lived in doesn’t photograph well J

Reason number tow is related to the saying “a shoemaker's children go barefoot” Even though I’m
constantly creating something, I havnt made anything for the house. That is now going to change, and I decided to start with a curtain to hide some of the mess in my kitchen. My next project is going to be a curtain for a small window in my hallway. I think that’s going to benefit both my neighbors as well as me J
